Welcome to
A private bird of prey sanctuary in the moat of Hohenbeilstein Castle. Visitors can see 100 birds of prey from four continents, with regular flight demonstrations.
Hohenbeilstein Castle towers above the winding half-timbered streets of the town of Beilstein. Today, Hohenbeilstein is home to a falconry center that is known throughout the country and attracts many visitors with its interesting flight demonstrations – eagles, vultures, and other birds circle majestically above Beilstein. ### Castle falconry
On a tour of the moat, visitors can discover the great diversity of birds of prey. Around 100 birds of prey from four continents can be seen on perches and roosts with protective shelters and modern breeding enclosures, which have been built and furnished according to the animals' needs, the latest scientific findings, and, above all, for the animals' well-being.
### Flight demonstrations The flight demonstrations take place in the castle courtyard. The highlight is the various species of vultures with wingspans of almost 3 meters. In optimal thermal conditions, the vultures of the Hohenbeilstein castle falconry circle at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters. But the training exercises, combination flights, and rapid hunting flights of the other birds of prey are also spectacular to watch.
Flight demonstrations at the Hohenbeilstein Castle Falconry usually take place from Good Friday at the following fixed times: - On weekdays, except Mondays, at 3 p.m. - On Sundays and public holidays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- During the summer holidays, daily at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., except Mondays - During the winter months from November 5, only on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. - For groups of 20 or more people with 2 days' advance notice, also possible on weekdays at 11 a.m.
### Castle complex & castle restaurant Today, the castle consists of the so-called "Langhans," a 27-meter-high, pentagonal keep, and the outer bailey, which is now used as a falconry and restaurant. Outside the flying hours of the castle falconry, the castle grounds are freely accessible.
